Hawking Falconry
The advent of hawking and falconry as a pastime first emerged in ancient Mesopotamia, and has since become popular in many countries around the world. Popularized mainly in England and Japan, there are now many organizations and associations dedicated to building communities around hawking and falconry. There are many ways for the novice falconer to get into the sport.
Hawking, or falconry as it is also popularly called, involves training various species of eagles, falcons and hawks to follow the falconer's commands and retrieve small game. The birds are usually trapped in the wild when they are young with the use of a hawk trap, and then they are raised in captivity. They are kept in a chambers called mews, and use perches for standing.
Many Hawking and Falconry Supplies Can Be Purchased at Mike's Falconry Supplies
A wide variety of equipment is used in falconry, including a hood made of kangaroo leather that the bird wears on its head to keep it docile and prevent it from being distracted. Kangaroo leather is the preferred material, because it is very supple and durable. The falconer attaches bells to the bird's ankle so that he or she can hear where it is.
Mike's Falconry Supplies sells all of these pieces of equipment in addition to many more, such as radio-tracking receivers and transmitters. The transmitter is attached to the bird's ankle and can be tracked using the receiver. If the bird flies away and does not return for any reason, the falconer can use these devices to track it.
