Falconry Bells

Falconry bells are a standard part of the falconer's toolkit. They are outfitted to the bird of prey by means of a strand of leather known as a bewit. The bells have multiple uses but essentially allow the falconer to hear and interpret what the bird is doing, even from a surprisingly great distance. Falconry bells are designed to be heard from way off in the distance.

Falconry traces its roots back many hundreds of years, and has long been popular in many parts of the world for hunting small- and medium-sized game. It takes many hours and a lot of patience to train a bird of prey to heed the falconer's commands. Falconry bells are introduced early on in the training process and are used throughout the process and practice of falconry.

Mike's Falconry Supplies Has a Variety of Falconry Bells from Which to Choose

The bells are made of a variety of different materials, each with its own distinct sound and characteristics. Popular materials include brass, bronze and nickel silver. One may also find bells made of beryllium. The tone and style of the bells, once attached to the bird, indicate to the falconer whether the bird is scratching, baiting, preening or many other activities. It also indicates where the bird is, whether in the air or on land.
